MEET HAIG
Haig Haleblian (Hal-Leb-Lian) has been a resident of Crystal Lake since 1983 and a local business owner in Crystal Lake since 1987. He began his business, now called Exceed Floor and Home with nothing and developed it into a retail floor covering business that is recognized as the premier and largest floor covering, cabinet, and interior design retailer in Northern Illinois.
Haig also values family and community: He and his wife Hawley live in Crystal Lake and have four adult children and five grandchildren. Haig served as Lakeside Center/Dole Mansion Chairperson from 1999-2002 where he worked to preserve this Crystal Lake historical site and structured the property sale to Lakeside Center from First Congregational Church. Haig served as a member of the Crystal Lake Economic Development Committee from 2005 to 2016 and served as Chairman of the committee from 2007-2009 where he worked to bring in new businesses to the community as well as retain existing businesses. Haig volunteered as a member of Crystal Lake Food Pantry Building Committee in 2016 where he oversaw the site selection, renovation, and opening, which provides much needed aid to those in our community who are less fortunate or having difficulty putting food on their family’s table.
Haig was appointed Acting Mayor unanimously by the Crystal Lake City Council on May 19, 2020 upon the untimely loss of his dear friend, community leader, and longtime Mayor Aaron Shepley. Although saddened by the loss of Mayor Shepley, Haig was humbled and honored to attempt to fill Aaron’s shoes and lead the City of Crystal Lake forward. Prior to serving as Acting Mayor, Haig served as a member of the Crystal Lake City Council since January of 2016. In addition to his extensive business and community experience, Haig also has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Southern Illinois University.
